A friend and teacher

"WHYYYYY?? Have you got no manners?"

“Who is that?” Communicated my and my friend's eyes.

I walked cautiously to the end of corridor, right in front of my Class X, I saw a petite girl (she looked like that) with a slender, dainty figure, red highlights on black hair, she looked Korean and I had no doubt in my mind about that.

“Oh, she's our new English teacher,” Bhavi informed me without asking, “She teaches the other two sections”.

“Thank God!” We both sighed in unison.

Retiring to monotonous classes, I saw her asking the maids how were they and it immediately made me smile. She soon came to our class, and her deep, detailed, emotional encounter with us, made me feel I knew her from ages - like ages..... I felt like butterflies in my stomach and the November cold felt like heat suddenly.

I like to exaggerate and make it seem like a ‘made in heavens and held in stars’ fairytale… but…

In reality, though I know it, but I hate to admit it, even to myself, it was just my subconscious wiring. She was a good and emotional person and I felt like she was my mentor. So there was I from the very next day, writing poetries for her, greeting her in corridors and all I wanted was to be her favorite student, even though she didn't teach us…

Almost two years later…

I call her first, no matter how sad or happy I am. She listens to me like a friend despite being a teacher; she's the softest voiced person I've ever met. But don’t be fooled. She's a strong woman with a tough history yet she’s so subtle, soft and kind...

She's my friend and teacher both, so a very HAPPY TEACHER'S DAY TO YOU, RUPALI MA’AM... ❤️
