A True Guide – A Teacher

To my mind one takes sometimes knowingly and at other times unknowingly... guidance from another human being... Parents are known for their persistence in telling us what to do. Our teachers whom we as children held in high esteem were even a notch higher than our parents..
I read a marvellous book that taught me a most valuable lesson. A young monk sought guidance about life from a senior monk. For a couple of years the young monk following his teacher's command did mundane jobs at times he did wonder when would he be taught something of a higher spiritual content. Nevertheless he obeyed... never questioning... working with total dedication... even in the most menial of tasks.
Finally one day his Teacher sent the young monk on his way to find the Sacred Book of Knowledge which the Teacher said would teach him everything that he needed to learn.

Along his journey in search of this Book the young monk faced many situations (which were actually lessons) and after many many-many months he found a cave high up in the mountains a light burned and there lay the Great Sacred Book!!!
The young monk was ecstatic! After calming himself he prayed and then with great care he opened the Book and what do you expect he found?
Nothing!
The Book was beautiful...but the pages were blank!
In that instant a revelation came to him that one has to write in the book of one's life one self.
Lessons come to us from myriad sources... but there's no denying that a Teacher shows us how to learn. Mine did! The kindergarten ones... the wonderful Nuns of the Convent of Jesus and Mary... the unforgettable teachers of MGD... later on my friends, then my spiritual learning from my Guru....then from my husband... even later from the Buddhist practice and finally from my own children...
My heartfelt salute to all Teachers! Happy Teachers Day!
