An ode to my teachers
Teachers have always been a source of inspiration for me. Since my childhood they have influenced me and shaped my life and I am now what I am. I remember when they started teaching embroidery in school, I was in class 3. I was very skeptical in the beginning, but gradually I picked up interest and now I make beautiful embroidery... thanks to Sister Philomena in S.M.A. Back home my mother was a strict task master, who made sure that I completed my project of embroidery every summer. This was my first step towards creativity.
Being a Bengali, singing in melody came naturally to me. Someone suggested to my mother that I should start training in Hindustani Classical Music. My first teacher in this field was Mr. Mavlankar in Mayo College. He was a very patient and lovable teacher. After learning for two years from him, I took admission in Music College. This used to be near India Motor Circle. Music taught me to be grounded in life and to be humble and courteous. Sister Francis, Miss Arasty, Miss Urvakshi, Mrs. Kapoor to name some of my favourite teachers... all of them have been a treasure in my life.

Talking about all my teachers is like putting an ocean in a small pitcher. In my 31 years of teaching many students have also been my teacher, in the sense that they have helped me to change my mind set at times.
Over the years, I’ve learnt that anyone can be our teacher, irrespective of age. What matters is the learning experience!
