Autumn and Leaves
It is all an earthy palette of oranges and yellows from the window of Tim Hortons. I really love sitting here, alone, it’s my go to place after the university. But is it very gentlemanly to keep a lady waiting? I tried being upset because I don’t like waiting even if it’s for Noah, but it was the tranquil looking at falling leaves, listening to the rustling sound, sipping the hot coffee, it all felt worth it, like this is what I fantasize - savouring life.
“I’m so sorry I kept you waiting. Something came up last minute,” Noah’s remorseful voice pulled me out of my thoughts.
I did my level best to sound firm, “Is that ‘something’ more important than me?”
“No, my love, nothing is more important than you.”

I don’t know if it was the words or the way he said them that made it pierce my heart. Or maybe it was both. “Olivia came from our grandmother’s and she needed my help to get back in.”
I nodded and smiled at the mention of Olivia.
All my firmness melted away at the way he spoke, “You are my autumn lily, I will always fall for you, just like how the leaves fall in autumn. Be it falling in love or falling to my knees to apologize, I would always do it, for you.”
It was only after this I realized that my fingers stopped tracing the rim of the cup and went to Noah’s hand, intertwining with his. I looked out of the window taking in the view and registering how beautiful a season could be and how its beauty multiplies if spent with the right person.
