How I Saved My Sister's Life

In the months of July-August we usually fast on Mondays, you know... ‘solah somwar’ ! My Dadi told me that I should keep these fasts too. There’s one incident I remember I would like to share with you all.

A few years ago, it so happened that on one of those Mondays it rained heavily, from Sunday night to Monday morning. When it finally stopped raining, it was almost afternoon. But the weather was just awesome and my cousins were staying with us at that time. So we all decided to go Pushkar for a picnic. My mother and my two bua's made something to eat. While they were cooking we packed one dress for each of us as we thought we’ll take a dip in the Pushkar Sarovar and then we'll do the parikrama. So we reached Pushkar singing songs and clicked pictures at Maharana Pratap Smarak at the Pushkar ghati.

When all of us were taking the holy dip while praying, my sister and me, we decided to take a dip together. Unfortunately her leg slipped! And she was drowning in the Pushkar Sarovar. I held onto her hands tightly but couldn’t open my eyes as I had just taken a dip and my hair was stuck to my face. My mother and everybody else was shocked see what was happening. They were too stunned even to move. Everything happened so quickly! I shouted very loudly telling my sister not to breathe and keep moving her legs and try to come out. She followed my first two instructions but she couldn’t come out. By this time my legs also were slipping due to the moss... Finally, I don't know how but I managed to pull her out and save her life...! It was nothing less than God’s miracle!

That incident had a huge impact on my sister and even now she’s afraid of going near any pond or a large water body! The monsoons bring greenery and joy but sometimes they may also bring bad memories.
